Our new Green Tour combines Muir Woods with a side trip to Sausalito, Muir Beach, Stinson Beach, old town Bolinas and its hidden beaches where surfers meet, and an outdoor adventure to Mount Tamalpais State Park to enjoy breathtaking and sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay Area.
You’ll enjoy a self-guided walking tour in the ancient forest of Muir Woods National Monument after a complete introduction from your guide. This 554 acres (224 ha) protected land is now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and is home to coastal redwood trees (Sequoia sempervirens). Muir Woods National Monument was created in 1908 by Theodore Roosevelt, named for John Muir who was a Scottish-American naturalist, author, environmental philosopher, and early advocate of wilderness preservation. You can take as much or as little time you need, just let your guide know your preferences.
Next you’ll travel along California State Route 1, toward Stinson Beach, with photos stops, short hikes, and a side trip to Muir Beach overlook, and Stinson Beach with its charming downtown. You can enjoy your lunch at one of the local restaurants in Stinson Beach or in downtown Bolinas, where you may see harbor seals and wildlife. This small community is a meeting place for surfers and artists and is home to California’s oldest saloon, dating back to 1852 and the Gold Rush.
After lunch, you will travel up to the highest peak in Marin County: Mount Tamalpais State Park. Here, you’ll see breathtaking and panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay Area and Pacific Ocean. There are two options to explore this picturesque park: A flat hiking trail, or take a challenging hike through a rocky trail all the way up to the top. Both trails will reveal the unique beauty and serenity of this magnificent mountain.
We recommend this eco-adventure for families with or with kids, nature lovers, and above all, photographers! The coastal town of Bolinas, accessible by an unmarked country road, will be your next stop, surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and beautiful lagoons. It is a small community, that is home to cottages, and a saloon built during the Gold Rush.

There are many hiking options for all levels, including a trail off-the-beaten-path before getting to the park. Your guide will help you decide on the best option.
